Free vs Paid AI Coding Tools: What Beginners Need

Start by identifying a requirement and a spending limit. A free plan can support experiments, but it does not guarantee that an entire project, its hosting and integrations will cost nothing. A paid subscription also has limits.

Separate the costs

Generation usage, deployed-app hosting, database traffic, custom domains and external email/payment services can have separate charges. Lovable’s credits documentation explains its build and running usage. A complex change can consume a different amount from a short message.

Project privacy and website privacy are also different. Bolt’s pricing lists public and private projects on Free. Lovable lists workspace-private projects on Free, while its publishing guide describes distinct access controls for the published site. Paying for a project workspace does not by itself prove that customer records are private.

Decide whether to upgrade

Name the actual limit: a usage allowance, required domain feature or access control. Compare waiting, reducing scope or purchasing capacity. Check renewal, cancellation, unused-credit rules and any automatic overage settings before checkout; paying for one month does not ensure hosting remains available afterwards.
